Sensational alternative rock artists Weezer and Pixies are bringing their signature sounds to the PNC Bank Arts Center!
Weezer was formed in Los Angeles in 1992 by vocalist and lead guitarist Rivers Cuomo, drummer Patrick Wilson, bassist Matt Sharp, and guitarist Jason Croppe. The band’s been through many line up changes since then and it currently consists of Rivers (lead vocals, guitars, harmonica), Patrick (drums, percussion, vocals), Brian Bell (guitars, keyboards, vocals), and Scott Shriner (bass, vocals). When the band’s on tour, the line up also includes Karl Koch (guitars, bass, keyboards, backing vocals, drums, percussion). Their musical style spans various genres such as alternative rock, power pop, pop punk, emo, and indie rock. They cite KISS, Nirvana, the Pixies, Pavement, Oasis, Wax, and the Beach Boys as their main influences (according to Rivers, their sound is like “Beach Boys with Marshall stacks”). They’ve had a stellar career with 11 studio albums, 2 compilation albums, 1 video album, 24 music videos, 6 extended plays, and 25 singles. They’ve sold 9.2 million records in the US and over 17 million worldwide. The video for their 1994 single Buddy Holly won 4 MTV Video Music Awards, 2 Billboard Music Video Awards, and the video for their 2009 single (Pork and Beans) won a Grammy Award.
